Monolithic Home Maintenance tips

Whilst some think that little or no maintenance is required on your monolithic home, this is far from true. Monolithic homes are prone to cracking and can get very dirty with mould and mildew. Follow these tips to keep your monolithic home in top condition.

  1. Wash down the house every year using a bleach or mould killer such as 30 Seconds to kill any obvious mould and mildew. Wash carefully, as some monolithics have placements which are made of polystyrene which can be damaged with water blasting.
  2. Inspect the house for cracks in the plaster. If you have had your house painted with Resene X-200 you can roll this into cracks of less than 1mm to fill them. The colour might be slightly different but will gradually fade to the surrounding colour. If there are larger cracks, call a professional.
  3. Clear away any plant materials or dirt build up from walls and around the base to stop damage to the texture.
  4. Get your house repainted every 8-10 years by a professional using the right product for the texture. We recommend Resene X-200.
